All of what you wrote really makes sense to me - most certainly your comparison to GIOM painting and how Vincent was treated. Very, very poignant. And for the Hirschhorn piece as well. As I wrote above, my reaction to it was "whoa, pull back, pull back!" :) - very telling actually - and it is only after, in reading about it that I see how brilliant it is. That was the only space that was crowded with people when I visited. I look forward to going back and spending more time in that room. And speaking of - do you know that admission is free for us? Yep. You just have to get a pass at the tourism office by showing proof of residence (edf, eau) and you can visit all of the monuments for free - very cool that they included this museum as well...<br />Good luck with the jet lag (I have done western U.S. to France a few times and wow is it tiring) and I am sure that we will run into each other soon. My visceral reaction to the Hirschhorn installment was negative but the more that I have read about it since seeing it, the more that I see what he was trying to (and did) accomplish. The French magazine L'Officiel even produced a seperate pamphlet that was handed out during the opening that was "a discussion" between the artist and the museum's artistic director. It really helped me appreciate the piece and it's importance in the exhibition, even if it is not an aesthetic that I appreciate personally.Heather Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01316279029849503437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2498719763759636773.post-30623584344716801342014-04-14T08:33:09.595+02:002014-04-14T08:33:09.595+02:00Enough. The frenetic trembling of the artists hands and limbs while painting, performing was not appreciated by me until I saw the video and I imagine that VanGogh with his alcoholism and syphilis may have had some resemblance to this GIOM. Anyway, these were my feelings seeing the video and it held me there for a while in comparison to the actual event. The tangle of ducts and commercial products (Van Gogh Converse shoes and Barbie Doll museum editions), ear molds, etc was like being in a "fantastic voyage" through the dendrites of a brain damaged but still struggling and creating, nightmarish almost, or the tortured dream of the young Japanese girl who created this. Reminiscent of finding my place with notes written by and to the artist, as Stephen, the writer who had a few of these notes placed in the apartment, gouhlishly inspirational.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09698309386197115369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2498719763759636773.post-4609922529035055932014-04-14T08:01:45.908+02:002014-04-14T08:01:45.908+02:00Heather,

The yellow house is the most appreciated in person compared to facsimiles I agree, there is avenue Stalingrad and the small tunnel that put me right where the house used to be. Apollinaire's zone was incredible for me. I have to mention Guillaume Bruere's drawings and the video of him recreating the Arlesienne having seen it being painted "LIVE!" last summer amidst everyone in their own summer world while I was trying to enjoy my time here while assessing what to do with the putrid place I wanted to be my home away from home. No pity for this first world problem. At the time seeing the spectacle didn't really impress me nor was the crowd really focused on it, but in the exhibit the video made me think Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09698309386197115369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2498719763759636773.post-42816735827221342252014-04-13T13:36:00.070+02:002014-04-13T13:36:00.070+02:00Van Gough was right about the light in Arles and P...Van Gough was right about the light in Arles and Provence.
